Who doesnt like tangy, spicy and sweet tamarind rice..its a delicasy in itself.. this is one dish which is always in demand at my place and how much ever you make it just goes empty...
Making the Puliyogare is an art. I dont know the lenghty process of making the yummy Puliyogare chutney...
All these chutney's are avilable at market and just get that home and make it. But truste me all these ready foods when cooked as per the directions really doesnt taste well. Variations here and there we need to make.
Find below the MTR Puliyohara mix and my variations with it. Try and tell me how does it taste
Pulihora /Puliyogare / Tamaring Rice
(Rice cooked with tangy tamaring & Spices)
3 cups of cooked and cooled Rice
2-3 tbsp of MTR Puliyogare Paste
4 tsp sugar
salt per taste
3 tbsp tamarind extract
For the Tampering
2 tbsp refined oil
handful of peanuts/ground nuts
2-3 strands of curry leaves
2 tsp musturd seeds
1 tsp urad dal
2-3 red chillies broken
Put the cooked and cooled rice in a big mixing bowl and add puliyogare mix, sugar, salt tamrind paste and mix well with the hand and let it sit for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Take a thick bottomed kadai and put the tampering /seasoning ingredients except the curry leaves. Once the musturd starts crackle add the curry leaves.
Add the rice mixture and heat it mixing every now and then till the rice becomes hot.
serve hot with raitha / chutney
- I prefer MTR Puliyogare paste to the powder
- You can adopt the same recipe for the powder also
- The packet instruction is to just to add the rice but the paste/powder is very spicy and no enough tamarind
- the above recipe gives a taste of pulihora chutney prepared at home
