Chitranna / Lemon Rice-1


This particular recipe takes me back to my earlier days of marriage. For me Chitranna recipe is what I adapted from my mom..Once I came to Blore and started working here i started tasting variety of Lemon Rice which varied from recipewise and also tastewise..too

Here is one variety which a frined of mine from Mysore told me..Try this tastes very nice :)

Chitranna / Lemon Rice
(Rice cooked with Lemon and spices)

Preparation Time : 15 min
Cooking Time 15 min
Serves : 2-4

2 cups cooked and cooled rice
1.5 lemons deseeded
salt per taste

For the Masala
1/4 cup garted coconut
2-3 green chillies (vary according to spice level)
1.5 tsp musturd seed
1/4 cup chopped corriander leaves
1/2 tsp turmeric powder

For the Tampering
1 tbsp oil
1/4 cup peanut/ground nut
1 strand curry leaves
1 tsp musturd seed
1.5 tsp chanadal
2 broken red chilli

Take all the masala ingredients in a blender and make a corase paste and keep it aside
Take a kadai and put the ingredients for tadka except the curry leaves. Once the musturd starts craking add the curry leave and give it a fry.
Add the masala paste and fry it till the mositure from the paste evoparates. switch off the flame and add rice, lemon juice and salt and mix well. Heat the entire mixture checking every now and then till rice becomes hot ( inorder to fasten this process you can heat it in a microwave)
Serve hot with chutney / bajji /pakoda


  • I tried this for the firt time and it came our very well
  • you can replace green chilli with red chilli too
  • Outside its always served with chilli pokoda
  • It should be lilttle spicy too  taste better
